Ingredients
Apple Filling
- 6 medium baking apples (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Gala), peeled, cored, and sliced
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Crisp Topping
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened or melted
Instructions
- Preheat Oven:Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking dish.
- Prepare the Apples:In a mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon until evenly coated. Transfer to the prepared baking dish and spread into an even layer.
- Make the Topping:In a separate bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, and brown sugar. Add the butter and mix using a fork or pastry blender until coarse crumbs form.
- Assemble & Bake:Scatter the oat topping evenly over the apple layer. Bake at 350°F for 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden-brown and the fruit juices are bubbling around the edges.
- Serve:Let cool for 5–10 minutes before serving warm with vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel.
Quick Tips
- Best Apples: A mix of tart (Granny Smith) and sweet (Honeycrisp/Pink Lady) provides great flavor and texture.
- Storage: Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 10 minutes to restore crispness.
