Ingredients
2 pounds shaved deli ham
1 cup barbecue sauce
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
16 slider buns
Directions
1. Place the shaved deli ham in the slow cooker insert, separating it lightly with your hands so the slices are not packed too tightly.
In a small bowl, stir together the barbecue sauce, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard until smooth, then pour the mixture evenly over the ham.
Cover and cook on low for 2 to 3 hours, stirring once or twice if convenient, until the ham is hot and fully coated in the sweet and tangy sauce.
Stir the ham well, then spoon it onto slider buns and serve warm.
Variations & Tips
Cheesy version: Add a slice of Swiss, provolone, or cheddar to each slider just before serving. If you like, place the filled sliders on a baking sheet and warm them briefly in the oven so the cheese melts neatly.
Sweeter sauce: If your family enjoys a sweeter sandwich, use a honey barbecue sauce or add an extra tablespoon or two of brown sugar. This works especially well when serving the sliders with tangy slaw or dill pickles.
Tangier finish: For a sharper, more balanced flavor, stir in a spoonful of pickle juice or a little extra Dijon at the end of cooking. That small adjustment helps cut through the richness of the ham and wakes up the whole filling.
Make-ahead tip: The ham mixture can be prepared a day ahead and refrigerated once cooled. Reheat it gently in the slow cooker or on the stovetop, adding a splash of water if needed to loosen the sauce before serving.
Serving for a crowd: Keep the hot ham in the slow cooker on the warm setting and let guests assemble their own sliders. This keeps the buns from getting soggy and makes the recipe especially convenient for parties and casual holiday get-togethers.
