If you love a classic Philly cheesesteak and a warm, buttery loaf of garlic bread, this recipe brings the best of both worlds together. Tender beef, caramelized peppers and onions, and melted provolone are tucked inside a crusty Italian loaf for a hearty, crowd-pleasing meal or game-day snack. Simple to prepare and impossible to resist, it’s the kind of comfort food that disappears fast.
Ingredients
- 1 large loaf Italian bread
- 1 lb (450 g) thinly sliced beef
- 1 cup sliced bell peppers (mixed colors)
- 1 cup sliced onions
- 2 cups shredded provolone cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat a large pan over medium-high heat and cook the sliced beef until browned. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
- In the same pan, sauté the bell peppers and onions until soft and lightly caramelized.
- Return the cooked beef to the pan and stir to combine. Remove from heat.
- Slice the Italian bread lengthwise, being careful not to cut all the way through.
- Gently hollow out some of the bread’s interior to create room for the filling.
- Spoon the beef, pepper, and onion mixture inside the loaf.
- Add the shredded provolone, pressing it into the filling so it melts evenly.
- Wrap the entire loaf tightly in foil and place it on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted.
- Unwrap the foil and return the bread to the oven for 5 minutes to crisp the top.
- Let it cool slightly, slice, and serve warm.
