Slow Cooker Strawberry Dump Cake

This Slow Cooker Strawberry Dump Cake is one of the easiest desserts you can make, yet it delivers all the cozy flavor of a homemade fruit cobbler. Sweet strawberries cook down into a warm, jammy filling while a buttery cake topping bakes into a soft, golden crust. Best of all, there’s no mixing required—just layer the ingredients and let the slow cooker do the work.

Perfect for family dinners, potlucks, or whenever you’re craving a simple dessert, this recipe pairs beautifully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Sliced strawberries (fresh or frozen)4 cups
Lemon juice (optional)1 tbsp
Ground cinnamon (optional)1/2 tsp
Vanilla extract (optional)1 tsp

Cake Layer

IngredientQuantity
White or yellow cake mix1 box (15.25 oz)
Unsalted butter, melted1/2 cup

Optional Toppings

IngredientQuantity
Vanilla ice creamAs desired
Whipped creamAs desired
Fresh strawberriesAs desired

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Slow Cooker

Lightly grease a 6-quart slow cooker with cooking spray or butter.

Step 2: Add the Strawberries

Spread the strawberries evenly across the bottom of the slow cooker.

If using, drizzle with lemon juice and vanilla extract, then sprinkle with cinnamon. Toss gently to combine and spread into an even layer.

Step 3: Add the Cake Mix

Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the strawberries.

Do not stir. Keeping the layers separate helps create the signature cobbler-style texture.

Step 4: Add the Butter

Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the cake mix, covering as much of the surface as possible.

Step 5: Cook

Cover and cook:

  • HIGH for 2 to 2½ hours, or
  • LOW for about 4 hours

The dessert is ready when the strawberries are bubbling and the topping is set and lightly golden.

Step 6: Rest Before Serving

Turn off the slow cooker and remove the lid.

Let the cake rest uncovered for 10–15 minutes to allow the topping to firm up slightly.

Step 7: Serve

Spoon the warm cake into bowls, making sure to scoop up both the strawberry filling and buttery topping.

Serve with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or extra fresh berries if desired.

Serving Tip

For an extra-special presentation, serve the warm cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a few fresh strawberry slices on top. The contrast between the warm fruit filling and cold ice cream is hard to beat.
