Tender beef patties in a rich onion and mushroom gravy served over creamy mashed potatoes. This 50-minute comfort dish delivers bold flavor and hearty texture
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely diced (for patties)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp oil or butter (for browning patties)
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 small onion, sliced (for gravy)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
Instructions
- Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, finely diced onion, salt, and pepper in a bowl
- Form mixture into 4 thick oval patties
- Heat oil/butter in skillet over medium heat
- Brown patties 3-4 minutes per side
- Cook sliced onions and mushrooms in same pan until softened
- Sprinkle flour and stir for 1 minute
- Whisk in beef broth, simmer 2 minutes
- Add Worcestershire sauce and thyme, simmer until gravy thickens
- Return steaks, spoon with gravy, cover, and cook 10-15 minutes
- Serve over mashed potatoes
